Since I’ve been browsing the net over the last few years, I have come across many photography sites, some fantastic and some abominable. The danger is that when a “photographer” with a new web site, is just somebody having just taken up the past-time, acquired an excessively pricey camera and perhaps stumbled across a good photograph or 2. Then they learn the way to do 1 or 2 tricks with a revising program like Photoshop and “hey presto” they’re a pro cameraman. I do not need to put anybody off this superb past-time, but it is vital to determine the credibility of the person giving the advice, particularly when it comes to marriage photography. I have read recommendation from folks on the net that truly would not pass muster as a marriage paparazzo, as not once did I see the words pro or professionalism.

Approach a pro marriage cameraman and ask if you can tag along at a marriage firstly WITHOUT your camera, and help him ( for nothing, though he may throw you some £s at the end ).

Next time ask if you can take some reportage or candid shots so long as under no circumstances do you get in the way of the paparazzo OR the events. Then you might approach a pair who are marrying and explain to them that you want to take pictures next to the pro paparazzo ( for nothing ) as practice, and if they like any of your photos, they can get them from you at a reduced rate. When you have done this a couple of times, and you’re feeling assured that you can do it alone, I’d suggest that once more, you picture a marriage free, but this time as the ONLY cameraman, and just charge for print costs.

By not charging, and the indisputable fact that you aren’t yet a business, and so long as you make this completely clear to the couple, you are reducing your liabilities but getting some superb experience under your belt. Before you finally make the leap and start charging for your services, I might suggest that you put yourself on a two or three day course with a pro cameraman and find out more about lighting and posing strategies, together with all of the other wants you’re going to be forced to learn. They usually include a model “couple” for a day for you to practice on. Marriage photography is so very much more than just taking the pictures, you have got to consider the albums, the organising, the printing and above all, your own talent, potency and professionalism. It’s a lot to take in and you will not make money for a bit this way, but when you ultimately begin to charge, you’ll be more than prepared and with some luck have bags of confidence.

After you get it, marriages can be difficult work but a lot of fun and extraordinarily rewarding both financially and satisfactorily. I have got a full run down of marriage photograph tips for newbies at my website ; Including a marriage photography list of all of the photographs you could have to take.
